The leading global aluminium producer, UC Rusal fully-funded 25 Jamaican scholarships on Tuesday, at a presentation ceremony at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston.
The scholarships, which have been valued at over $100 million (£66 million), will be funding students who have chosen to study in chemical, mining, electrical, instrumental and mechanical engineering in Russia.
The recipients were put through rigorous testing, including essay-writing and tests; in the hope that the students will return home as role models for their communities.
Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining Phillip Paulwell stated;
“In this world, where competition is at the heart of everything, we have to ensure that we produce the best at whatever we do, and ensure that our people are exposed”.
