It has been revealed that shoppers blew a record £288 million in contactless payments last year.
The figures have increased by 247% since 2015. Pub drinkers have reportedly played a major role in the increase of the figures. Workers grabbing lunch on the go are also responsible for the recent surge.
Feeding the tap-and-go card use obsession, 38 million payments were made using phone apps. In December 2016 alone, £51 million was spent on contactless smartphones.
These figures have been reported by the UK’s largest payments processor, Wordplay.
