The last of 3 men convicted for a fight that turned fatal in Oldham received his sentence on 31 October.
Back in August, a group of friends were at a flat when a fight was instigated into the early hours of the morning. The fight continued onto Ashton Road, where 19-year-old Tommy Bilton and another man both received serious injuries.
Tragically, Tommy passed away in hospital as a result of the injuries.
The group of 3 men found to be responsible include 22-year-old Kieran Knapman and 20-year-old Joshua Brierley. Knapman was sentenced to 8 months in prison and Brierley was sentenced to 1 year – both for affray.
Last to learn his fate was 24-year-old Matthew Gregory, who was sentenced to 12 years and 5 additional years on licence.
Detective Inspector Andy Naismith of Greater Manchester Police Major Incident Team has released a statement following the sentence:
“Violence will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester and we will do everything in our power to bring those people who defy the law to justice”.
