Customers of North City Family and Fitness Centre will soon benefit from a £450,000 improvement project, which will transform the existing health and fitness offer.
The 14 week project will see an extension to the current gym space and will feature brand new Technogym equipment. There’ll be new lighting and flooring, plus a fresh new look and feel. The studio and changing rooms are also being refreshed and new access control turnstiles will be added to reception to improve centre access.
North City Family & Fitness Centre is managed by GLL under the MCRactive brand.
MCRactive is the not-for-profit organisation established and overseen by Manchester City Council, responsible for driving sport and physical activity across the city.
Overseeing the start of the project today (Monday 20 May) was Manchester City Council’s Executive Member for Schools, Culture and Leisure, Councillor Luthfur Rahman.
Councillor Rahman said: “MCRactive is all about inspiring Manchester residents to be more physically active and providing as many sport and leisure opportunities as possible for people of all ages and abilities.
To help us meet this goal, we are working with GLL to provide sports and leisure facilities of the highest calibre across the whole city and this is the perfect example of our partnership in action.”
Ian Harkins, Head of Service for GLL in Manchester said: “We’re delighted to be investing into North City. This is the first major investment project that is being delivered as part of the new partnership arrangement with MCRactive which began in December 2018.
In partnership with MCRactive it is our aim to get local communities more active and to ensure Manchester continues to invest in affordable high-class leisure and sports facilities across the city.”
It will be business as usual throughout the project as a temporary gym will be created in the studio to enable the refurbishment to the existing gym and changing rooms to take place.
The new gym and changing rooms will re-open at the end of July with the studio due to be complete at the end of August.
