Dreamgirls actress Anika Noni Rose shared an emotional account of her allegedly being sexually assaulted on a plane whilst sleeping.
Rose said she was ‘looking just like a kid’ when the attack is said to have happened.
The 45-year-old starred in Oscar award-winning film Dreamgirls alongside Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson. She recently spoke about her #MeToo story on SiriusXM’s Make It Plain show. She choked up at times while recalling the incident to host Mark Thompson.
The actress, who won a Tony Award for her performance in Caroline, or Change, said: ‘I have never spoken of this.
‘But I will say this out loud now: I was assaulted on a plane last year. And I haven’t been able to get this person’s name; they won’t give me the name of the person.’
The Power actress said she looked like a sleeping kid in school, when the incident happened in 2017. So far, police have done nothing to bring her justice.
She added: ‘There’s a Freedom of Information Act you’re supposed to be able to get people’s names. I made a report right then with the FBI, and they dropped the case.
Rose starred as the first black Disney princess in the Princess And The Frog. She explained she had no previous interactions with her assaulter: ‘There wasn’t even a, “Hi, how ya doing?”’ She described how the ‘sly violation’ woke her up.
‘I was shaking. I was so upset and so hurt and angry. I wanted to punch that man,’ she said, holding back tears.
‘And I knew that it would take away from the story I had to tell, so I would hold in everything that I was feeling to be able to tell this story and be heard and taken seriously.’
The Half Of A Yellow Sun actress said she is not ready to give up her fight. Even thought the police allegedly have yet to do anything about her assault, she will fight for justice. She also adds that she has a photo of the man she is working to identify.
