Appeal for information following fatal Stretford collision

On the evening of Friday 9 September there was a fatal collision in Stretford.

The incident happened at around 10pm and police were called to the scene, which at the junction of Chester Road and Green Street.

A blue Volkswagen Golf hit a pedestrian in the collision, 59-year-old Susan Smythe, who sadly passed away at the scene.

Whilst police carry out their investigations, the southbound carriageway on Barton Road is closed, as well as the Chester Road and Edge Lane southbound.

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The suspects are a 20-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is appealing for help from anyone who was at the scene or may have any information about the incident. Anyone who does is urged to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.

Susan’s family have also made a plea for information, saying, “We are absolutely devastated by her death and will miss her greatly. We are appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened to please contact police”.

GMP have since added, “If you also saw a blue Volkswagen Golf in the Old Trafford and Sale Moor areas around the time of the collision then please get in touch”.
