Apple’s recommended top 10 apps

There are over a million iPhone apps out there and working out which ones are suited to what you want to do can be a drag. But Apple are eager to help.

The company recently released a list of the 10 apps that they believe you should have on any new iPhone. Apparently these are the essentials, and they range from powerful photo apps to ones that can tell you when it will rain in your exact location.


The app professional Instagrammers are utilising to make their photos stand out. VSCO enables you to choose from dozens of retro film filters. (Price: free).


The ideal app for managing your web logins and any other sensitive information. It has a user-friendly interface and can be used on any device, whether you have a laptop, a phone or even an Apple Watch. (Price: free with the option of an upgrade for $9.99).

Dark Sky

Ensures you never get caught in the rain or snow. The app will warn you if it is about to rain in your exact location. It’s like having a weather psychic in your pocket. (Price: free with the option of an upgrade for $3.99).


Lets you get in on the animated filter craze. Masquerade’s app allows you to overlay playful and vivid filters over your face, using your phone’s selfie camera. The app was recently bought by Facebook. (Price: free).


Allows you to easily pay back your friends, even when you don’t have any cash. The app syncs with your checking account or debit card for transactions, letting you easily pay your friends back. It is also a mini social network in the sense that you can see what other people are paying each other for. It also has playful emoji descriptions. (Price: free).
