Armed robbery in Salford prompts witness appeal

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are appealing for information following an armed robbery at a travel agents in Salford.

On Thursday 12 January 2017, around 2.35pm, a man entered a travel agents on Memorial Road, Walkden, armed with a handgun.

He pointed the gun at staff and customers and made repeated demands for cash.

After being repeatedly told the business does not store any money on the premises, he fled empty-handed and turned left onto Memorial Road.

He is described as white, 5ft 10in tall, of slim build and spoke with a Manchester accent.

He was wearing a black balaclava, a khaki hooded top with light grey sleeves and blue jeans. He was carrying a white plastic carrier bag.

Detective Constable Will Hardman, of GMP’s Salford Borough, has issued a statement. “This was a cowardly crime that terrified two customers and two members of staff”. DC Hardman said the victims “are still dealing with the emotional trauma caused by the incident”.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crime, or anyone who has any information, to please get in touch as soon as possible.

“Memorial Road was busy with traffic and pedestrians at that time of the robbery and it is likely that someone will have seen the offender either entering or leaving the business”.
