The Test cricket’s five-match series that sees the victor between England and Australia lift the famous brown urn is back.
Running from 8 July to 24 August, this year’s The Ashes comes to the UK with the first test in Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens.
England has announced it will include Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid in its 13-man squad for the opening match of the series.
The uncapped 27-year-old was selected despite not being part of England’s team-bonding trip to Spain under new coach Trevor Bayliss.
Upon announcing the squad, Bayliss said he wants a team that “plays with freedom”.
Rashid is one of five players in captain Alastair Cook’s squad – Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, Adam Lyth and Mark Wood being the rest – who have not played in an Ashes series.
“I was told to come and play and get some overs under my belt and see if I could get selected and that’s happened” Rashid said.
