In an effort to cut emissions and renew the environment, The White House has brought together 81 companies in a new emissions pledge. The initiative commits big businesses into taking specific actions to lower their own greenhouse gas emissions.
There is a push for investment in renewable, low-carbon forms of energy that could make the way products are created and delivered more efficient. Collectively the companies signing up to support climate change operate businesses in all 50 states. They also employ more than 9 million people, whilst gathering over $3 trillion in annual revenue.
President Obama stated today that these businesses have all reacted positively to the climate treaty.
“… I just want everybody to understand that American businesses want this to happen as well,” he said. “What they do need is certainty. It’s going to be very hard for them to operate if they don’t know what the rules of the road are. And what we’re trying to do is make sure that everybody is on a fair playing field; everybody is going their part to make sure that we’re saving this planet.”
