Day one of the Caribbean Carnival of Manchester commenced on Saturday 8 August and, as expected, it went off with a bang!
The vibes had well and truly returned as thousands turned out to witness’ Moss Side Carnival’ return to its spiritual home in Alexandra Park, Moss Side after spending two years at Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield.
There were six stages including the Red Bull Music Academy which featured the likes of Toddla T, Chimpo and Marcus Nasty and the newly rebranded Legacy FM stage.
Formerly known as Peace FM, Legacy used Carnival as their official launch with comedian Aurie Styla as host, DJ Silva headed the music and there were performances from lots of musicians born and bred in Manchester.
There was undoubtedly the best atmosphere there has been in years, from the parade to the organisation of the park, everything went swimmingly.
Vibrant, sparkling costumes were worn with pride as the dancers walked, jumped and skipped around the parade route and led the crowds in to the park where the aroma of jerk chicken wasn’t the only spicy sensation setting off everybody’s senses.
