Loose Women presenter Carol McGiffin has revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.
The news made the front page of several Sunday papers yesterday which described how the 54 year-old discovered a lump whilst holidaying in Malaysia in February 2014.
McGiffin has since “got through it” after a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Speaking to the Sunday People, Carol told how she decided not to tell Loose Women Co-star Lynda Bellingham- who lost her battle against colon cancer in October 2014- of her own ordeal: “I thought it would be really unfair of me to tell Lynda about my situation. She was such an unselfish person, so she would have loved it if there was someone else to worry about… She had enough to worry about and was in a lot of pain. I suffered nothing like she did.”
Carol decided to tell all about her cancer because she didn’t want to pretend anymore. “I kept it a secret because I didn’t want anyone feeling sorry for me.
“I feel it is over now and I’ve got through it. I just want to be able to go out without my hat on and for people not to be bothered. I just want life to get back to normal.”
