Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has released a CCTV image of a man suspected of stealing £300 from a 79-year-old woman in Wigan.
On Friday 27 May 2016, at around 2.25pm, the victim was withdrawing cash from an ATM outside Lloyds TSB on Market Street in Wigan, when she was approached by a man.
He distracted her, and while her attention was diverted away from the machine he stole £300 from her account without her realising.
The offender was wearing black trainers, grey tracksuit bottoms, a green parka coat and black Nike cap.
Police Community Support Officer Debbie Alty said: “This poor woman was left significantly out of pocket by an opportunist thief who targeted her while she was using the cash machine.
“The offender is highly likely to offend again, and as a result we would like anyone who recognises the man in this image to come forward and speak to police.
“Perpetrators of crimes such as this tend to target elderly and vulnerable victims while they are alone in the town centre, and even a momentary lapse of concentration can cost the victims hundreds of pounds”.
The public is being advised to be vigilant at all times when using ATM machines.
