Chelsea needs a doctor after City ‘assault’

As if the clouds looming over Jose Mourinho weren’t dark enough already, Manchester City increased ‘The Special One’s plight with a rather special 3-0 hammering of Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium today.

The result put City five points clear of the Premier League champions. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring in typically skilful fashion in the 31st minute before late goals from captain Vincent Kompany – his second in two games – and Fernandinho signalled the end of a breathless, thorny match.

Chelsea manager Mourinho’s week could not get any more bleak than this.  The controversial Portuguese has been caught in a storm over his demotion of team doctor Eva Carneiro and head physiotherapist Jon Fearn. He also withdrew his skipper John Terry at half-time for the first time in 177 league games.

Whatever you think of the man, there is a growing consensus that Mourinho made a huge mistake in his actions against the Carneiro and Fearn. The much-talked about story this week has seen Mourinho become Football’s public enemy number 1. One City fan took things further to mock the Chelsea manager by dressing up in a white lab coat whilst wearing a stethoscope round his neck. Oh the entertainment football fans bring!

After angering Mourinho by running on to treat Eden Hazard when Chelsea were down to 10 men in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City, neither Carneiro nor Fearn were present on the visitors’ bench, but as City fans demonstrated, they were very much there in spirit.

It’s been a while since the commentators of BBC’s Match of the Day had such a meaty list of things to talk about the day; tonight’s will be one surely not to miss.
