Located in the centre of Manchester’s bustling student community on Oxford Road, Chilango restaurant opened its doors late April. Following the success of its ten London branches, Chilango aims to bring its Mexican flavours to northerners.
Upon entering the restaurant, what catches the eye is the fun design which creates a thriving atmosphere. An electric colour palette with neon and graffiti jumps off the walls, and the interiors are designed to inject some fun holiday spirit into the soul.
Onto the food, Chilango intends to offer the best quality, a mixture of fresh ingredients and Mexican flavours, which includes burritos, tacos and salads at low prices – prices ranging between £6 and £10 per person. The inspiration comes from authentic Mexican cuisine with addings of Mexican communities’ food habits in the US.
As the owners explain, the menu is a result of trips to Mexico, as well as Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco – home to three of the largest Mexican communities in the USA. From street vendors to high-class restaurant chefs, family cooks and recipes, the restaurant’s techniques and secrets have been picked up carefully to deliver a variety of flavours and colours.
