R&B singer Chris Brown and Rapper Soulja Boy’s beef will not be settled inside the boxing ring.
On 21 February, Chris announced that he would be “bowing out” of the highly anticipated fight. The Las Vegas celebrity fight night – which was expected to take place in March – has officially been cancelled.
Chris claims that he has been taken advantage of and blames the ‘middle men’ for the cancellation. The ‘Loyal’ singer announced the cancellation in an Instagram video. He said, “all the wrong people got in the way”.
Brown was involved in a public feud with rapper Soulja Boy, resulting in the arrangement of a three-round fight. Heavyweight legend, Mike Tyson was hired to train Chris Brown and Floyd Mayweather was hired to train Soulja Boy.
In his Instagram video, Chris Brown gave further detail about why the fight had been cancelled. Chris said “the homies” got “in the way cause they wanna get a piece of the pie”.
He also went on to call the fight “immature”. He said he wasn’t going to be “held up” over the fight. Chris said the ‘Crank That’ rapper will “see” him.
Before Chris made the announcement, Soulja Boy tweeted to say that the $1 million [£804,931] fight was off.
The rapper said “Chris brown manager called my manager last night and said the fight is off”. “He’s not signing contract. Don’t ask me about [it] no more” Soulja, tweeted.
“I aint gon say… he shook or nothing. I’m just gon say he don’t wanna fight. simple”.
The rapper told followers that he couldn’t force the singer to sign the contract. Soulja Boy had made an earlier claim that the singer was “scared” to fight him.
After the news of the cancellation broke, Soulja Boy continued to send threats to Chris through Instagram. The beef started cooking earlier this year when Soulja Boy liked a picture of Chris’s ex, Karrueche Tran.
Tran has since filed a restraining order against Chris.
