Set up three years ago as part of a franchise, owner Lyndsey has only recently rebranded her Chorlton-based family-run chocolate shop and cafe as the Cocoa Tree the community have come to know and love.
The shop has a set variety of chocolates – including such favourites as the salted caramel truffle – and introduces four ‘special guest’ chocolates at a time which change seasonally. All chocolates are lovingly crafted on site and decorated by hand.
The cocoa beans are sourced from Belgium whilst other ingredients are bought from local shops, adding to the fresh feel. Gracing the counter is a selection of sumptuous cakes, brownies and cookies that are brought in from bakeries within the area.
Alongside the boxes, bags of different chocolate treats decorate the shelves of a wooden cabinet. Cocoa Tree also provides chocolate moulded into the shape of shoes, bags or even paintbrushes. These are dusted with edible coloured glitter and can be personalised, tailored to each customer’s requirements.
On another wooden cabinet a range of chocolate slabs from different companies across the globe, all in beautiful packaging, sit triumphantly. Little labels explain the chocolate’s origin and unique history. It is these shelves, boasting such delicacies as roasted cocoa tea, that “keep it unique” and provide something a little different for Cocoa Tree’s customers.
All of the chocolate displayed here, she explained, are from ethical co-operative companies, where the profit stays within the country in which the chocolate is produced.
