No matter what size a business may be, managing different social media platforms can be a challenge. What works for Facebook, may not work for Instagram. But what may work for Instagram may not be effective on Twitter.
For every platform of social media, the user has different expectations. So the content that you post on each platform needs to be altered to suit the programme.
That’s why we’re here to help.
This week’s money, marketing and business blogpost is dedicated to Instagram. With the rise of photo-sharing apps, more and more businesses are expanding via Instagram. It’s quick, simple and can reach millions online.
Connect other social media channels
In order to create a consistent grand image, make sure your username is the same on Instagram as it is elsewhere. Similarly, use the same profile image or logo and include your URL in the bio section of the page.
If you connect your Instagram page to other platforms of social media, such as Facebook or Twitter you will be able to post your image on multiple platforms at once. However, because each platform has different length limits and capacities – it is best to alter each one for the specific platform.
Make posts aesthetically pleasing
Posting images that look good can boost your following and engagement statistics. But you don’t have to be a professional photographer to take good images.
Good lighting will make your photos appear brighter and of a higher quality. Many bloggers use the in-app editing feature on Instagram to boost the brightness of an image and alter the contrast settings. But other apps can be used prior to uploading the image on Instagram.
Sticking to a specific theme may be helpful for businesses who specify in selling one type of product. For example, the Instagram theme for a spa will be very different to a business that specialises in vegan and/or organic produce.
Add hashtags to photos
Instagram and Twitter use hashtags to connect people looking and searching for the same thing. Adding hashtags to your posts on Instagram can connect your existing readers to relevant and trending content. But even better, using hashtags can open doors to a wider audience with new readers.
Keep it short and sweet
Instagram captions have a limit of 2,200 characters. After three lines of text, the rest of the text is indicated by an ellipsis.
Ideally, you should grab the readers attention with your opening line. By doing this, you will encourage them to keep reading further.
Tag relevant others in your photos
If you have collaborated with another business or specific individual, be sure to capture them in a photo for Instagram. Tagging them in the image will link your photo to their page. This means that if they have a high following, you will receive page views from their followers. This could result in more engagement with the post and potentially more followers and business.
Include Instagram videos
Instagram has a video that feature that allows you to post quick snippets of videos to your business page. Including a video has its benefits. This could include giving a quick preview or teaser of a new product or service that you are providing. It could also offer a change in your Instagram feed. Having varying content is essential in keeping your readers interested.
Instagram videos must be at least 3 seconds long but should not be any longer than 60 seconds.
Keep updated with in-app updates
Staying up to date with in app dates is crucial. Much like Snapchat, Instagram now has the option to create stories for a short period of time. When you create story it will be one of the first to appear on the toolbar on the homepage.
Show the fun-times
Many people use Instagram to show the best aspects of their life. So why should your business be any different? If you’re having an early morning meeting in the city or you’re out for lunch with a client and see an Instagram-worthy photo opportunity, use it to your advantage.
Similarly, statistics have shown that business Instagram pages are effective when they show the behind-the-scenes and day-t0-running of the office or workspace.
Engage with your community
Encourage you readers to post their own images with your business. This could be an image of the product or service that you provide.
Similarly, ask open questions to your readership and reply instantly to their comments. Customers should feel like their engagement is valued.
