Roads in central Manchester closed on Tuesday ahead of the Great City Games on Friday 20 May, including Deansgate.
The road, along with Albert Square, is being turned into an outdoor athletics venue ahead of the event, and will re-open again on Saturday midday.
Many roads will also be closed throughout Manchester on Sunday 22 May for the Great Manchester Run, causing further chaos for road users.
The first event on Friday is set to start at 4:45pm and the games will conclude after the men’s 100m at 7:18pm, while the Sunday run will keep roads occupied till 3:30pm.
The closure coincided with the rescheduled Manchester United versus AFC Bournemouth game on Tuesday evening, as well as ongoing work on Oxford Road.
