Have you ever wondered why successful people are successful? Is it just luck, or is it intelligence. Maybe it is contacts or it could be that they have money.
What if I told you it is none of the above?
I am not saying that the above are not important, of course they are. However, there are many other factors that help individuals to become successful.
Former city trader, international athlete and the chief executive of Entrepreneurs in Action Derek Browne states that “a positive attitude”A is one of the key ingredients of success.
Nevertheless, being successful is not just about being famous or earning lots of money. In my opinion, being successful is about reaching your potential and achieving your aims and goals. Being happy and content with oneself can also be regarded as a measurement of success.
It’s easy to be unsuccessful, especially if you:
Fail to plan
Lack self confidence
Have a poor attitude
Stay inside your comfort zone
However, if you want to develop the habits generally associated with effective and successful people, then best-selling author Stephen Covey has 7 steps I would like to share with you.
Be proactive. The Habit of Choice: See alternatives and not road blocks. You are in charge of your destiny.
Begin with the end in mind. The Habit of Vision: Define and be clear what your outcomes will be. Goal setting.
Put first things first. The Habit of Integrity: Focus on the important and not just the urgent. Plan weekly and act daily.
Think win win. The Habit of Mutual Benefit: Build trust and develop effective long term relationships.
Seek first to understand, then to be understood. The Habit of Mutual Understanding: It is important to understand other people.
Synergize. The Habit of Creative Co-operation: The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Sharpen the Saw. The Habit of Renewal: Always be open to change and to continuous and never ending improvement.
Finally, the entrepreneur Jim Rohn states, “success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines practiced every day.”
What will be the steps that you practice every day?
Stay focused and stay blessed
