Drake confesses love for Rihanna at VMAs

During the MTV Video Music Awards on 28 August, Drake delivered a heartfelt speech about his feelings towards Rihanna.

Whilst presenting her with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the rapper, now 29 years old, said, “She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old”.

The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard is a lifetime achievement award, given to someone who has truly made their mark on music throughout their career.

Drake was chosen to present Rihanna with the prestigious award, and whilst talking about her achievements in music, he also spoke of his feelings towards her personally.

Afterwards, Drake appeared to lean in, in an attempt to kiss her, but Rihanna tilted her head and avoided locking lips on stage.

Rihanna stood out on the night, performing and receiving arguably the best award of the evening. However, Beyoncé stole the show, delivering a powerful performance and becoming the VMAs most decorated artist.

This has brought the long-standing Rihanna vs Beyoncé debate back into full flow, with fans from both sides standing by their favourite.

Many were gushing over Drake’s loving declaration on social media. @jonahcalma tweeted, “Drake and Rihanna are gonna get married one day and that’s the only reason why I’m still living”.

There has been speculation for years about whether or not the pair are or have ever been more than friends. Numerous joint tracks and a confession of love from Drake later, we are still unsure of where their relationship stands.

Only time will tell us if Drake will get his fairytale ending.
