US Olympian Tyson Gay has tragically lost his daughter, Trinity Gay, who was shot dead in the early hours of Sunday 16 October.
The 15-year-old was reportedly caught in the cross-fire of 2 vehicles in Lexington, Kentucky. She was shot in the neck, which once she was taken to hospital, proved to be fatal.
Trinity did not know any of the people in either of the vehicles, but it seems likely that she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Tyson has released a statement following his daughter’s death. “She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened”.
Trinity had begun to follow in her father’s sprinting footsteps, competing in events for her high school.
Commissioner of the Kentucky High School Athletics Association, Julian Tackett, has tweeted about the sadness of the event. “A life of such potential cut so tragically short”.
Since the incident – which happened in the car park of a Cook Out restaurant – two people have been detained for questioning.
