JLS star Oritse Williams allegedly raped a woman after she lost her phone in his hotel room, a court heard today as his trial got underway.
The 31-year-old singer is standing trial at the Wolverhampton Crown Court accused of raping a woman on 2 December 2016.
He is standing trial with another man, Jamien Nagadhana, who is said to be his tour manager.
In her opening statement, prosecutor Miranda Moore QC alleged that Williams met three women while making an appearance at Gorgeous nightclub and went back to his hotel with two of them after one went home in a taxi.
Williams was allegedly ‘very taken’ with one of the three women and reportedly said she should be a Victoria’s Secret model. After arriving back at the Ramada Hotel in Wolverhampton, a staff member claims to have spotted the two women looking ‘spaced out and zombified’.
While in the hotel room, Williams allegedly pulled down his trousers and tried to have sex with one of the women while wearing a condom. The women then left the room and one is said to have had a ‘full blown panic attack’.
One woman, who has not been named, then realised she couldn’t find her phone so went back into the hotel room to search for it.
Moore claims this was her ‘mistake’ as Williams is alleged to have opened the door, picked the woman up and ‘plonked her down on the double bed’.
The woman reportedly protested telling him to ‘p**s off’ and ‘f**k off’ but Williams is said to have pulled down her trousers and tried to give her oral sex.
Williams allegedly continued to have sex with the woman and groped her breasts before his ‘weird friend’ Nagadhana joined in.
The sex was consensual
The men were arrested by West Midlands Police and Williams claimed the woman making the accusation instigated sex.
During his police interview, Williams reportedly said that the sex was consensual, but he was having problems performing. He denied Nagadhana had any involvement.
In his own police interview, Nagadhana provided a prepared statement in which he said he touched and kissed one of the women on her bum but was trying to sleep when she and Williams were having sex.
He said ‘no comment’ to any question asked after making the statement. Following news of his arrest, Williams’ management company released a statement denying the accusations before he pleaded not guilty.
They said: ‘Oritse denies the allegations against him. The matter is in the hands of the police and it would be totally wrong for us to comment any further.’
The trial continues at Wolverhampton Crown Court and is expected to last five days.
