Family pay tribute to man who died in Clifton fire

The family of a man who was found dead after a fire in Clifton has paid tribute to him.

At around 12.35am on Wednesday 22 March 2017, emergency services were called to a property on Berry Street. Emergency services were responding to reports of a fire.

Fire-fighters entered the property and the discovered the body of a 47-year-old man. He was identified as Thomas Jones.

A Home Office post-mortem concluded that he died from multiple stab wounds.

His family has paid tribute to him: “Tom was a vibrant man who lived his life the way he wanted and certainly made an impression. He always had a passion for music and was quite an adept drummer.

“Tom will be sadly missed and would have wanted good times to be remembered by all who knew him. Now reunited with his mother and father he will always be remembered by his children, sisters and nieces and nephews who he leaves behind. Rest in peace”.

Since the investigation was launched, a 37-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

She is currently receiving treatment in hospital and will be questioned by police as soon as possible.

Detective Chief Inspector Amber Waywell of GMP’s Salford borough said: “My thoughts are with the Thomas’ family at this terrible time. They are being supported by our specially trained officers.

“Our investigation is still in its early stages however, so we are continuing to appeal for information from the public”.
