FC United have posed a question to the people of the local community: “Are you down on your luck and sleeping rough over Christmas?”
If the answer is yes, the club is opening its stadium on Christmas Day to offer you some Christmas comforts. They’ve decided to help the homeless who would otherwise spend the day on the cold streets.
The Christmas comforts on offer include the opportunity to have a hot shower, with the club providing toiletries and towels. They’re also providing a cooked breakfast for everyone who comes along.
There will also be fun Christmas Day activities to get involved in. These will include pool, table football, PS4, table tennis, arts & crafts and XBOX. Volunteers will run the day and will be at the stadium from 8.00am until 1.00pm.
The stadium – Broadhurst Park – is on Lightbowne Road in Moston. The club have organised a city centre pick-up point where people can hop on board a bus to get there. There will be a pick-up point on the corner of Piccadilly Gardens on Oldham Street.
Times for the buses are at 8.30am, 9.15am, 10.00am, 10.45am, 11.30am and 12.15pm. Afterwards, the buses will return everybody to the city centre.
There are many people sleeping rough on the streets of Manchester, for a diverse range of reasons. FC United is offering some of these individuals a local place to go at Christmas time, to celebrate in warmth.
Hopefully this news will inspire more organisations in the community to do their bit for those in need this Christmas.
