Former contestant on US show the Voice, Christina Grimmie was shot dead following her concert in Orlando, Florida on Friday 10 June.
Police were called to reports of a shooting at The Plaza Live venue, where the offender, 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl, had shot the 22-year-old singer while she was having a meet and greet with fans
The singer’s brother, Marcus, tackled the offender who then shot and killed himself.
A police statement said that: “Christina Grimmie died from the gunshot wounds she suffered.
“Her brother Marcus is a hero and possibly saved countless other lives”.
Loibl had brought two loaded handguns, additional ammunition and a hunting knife with him to the venue, where around 120 people were still present at the time of the shooting following the concert.
Detectives are continuing to search for a motive.
The Plaza Live issued a statement via Facebook in which they paid tribute to the singer, and stated staff would provided with grief counsellors with further events suspended at the venue.
Maroon 5 front-man Adam Levine, who coached Christina while on the Voice, said via Twitter that: “Behati and I are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by Christina Grimmie’s death.
“Our hearts go out to her family”.
The shooting of Christina Grimmie occurred just days before a gunman massacred revellers at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, just ten minutes away.
