Further arrests over attempted murder in Harpurhey

A further two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, after a man was shot in Harpurhey.

On Sunday 7 August 2016, at around 11.20pm, police received several reports of a shooting at a takeaway on Rochdale Road, Harpurhey.

Officers attended and a 27-year-old man was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to his leg and torso. He underwent surgery for his injuries and is now in a stable condition.

A 21-year-old man and a 26-year-old man both from Harpurhey, were arrested in Harpurhey on suspicion of attempted murder.

They are now in police custody. Two other men were arrested in connection with this incident and bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Rick Mortimer from GMP’s XXXX Borough said: “The [two] men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and are being questioned by police.

“We have executed a number of warrants and have so far arrested eight people in connection with the incidents.

“Our enquiries however, are still ongoing and although this is a positive step in the investigation, we are still appealing for those with any information to contact police.

“Firearms are not welcome in Greater Manchester and we will continue our fight to get them, and the people who use them off our streets”.
