Further witness appeal after collision fatality in Wigan

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has issued a further appeal for witnesses after a man died following a collision in Wigan.

On Monday 8 August 2016, at around 2.45am, police were called to reports of a collision after a motorcycle collided with a tree on Wigan Road, Abram.

Officers and paramedics attended but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has been formally identified as Richard “Ricky” Johnson, 34, from Wigan.

His family have issued a photograph of him and are appealing for witnesses.

Police Constable Paul Hailwood of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The family and friends of Richard have been left devastated by this tragic loss.

“My thoughts are with them and we have specially trained officers supporting them at this difficult time.

“His family are desperate for answers and I am urging anyone who saw Richard riding his blue motorcycle with learner plates between 2am and 2.30am on Monday 8 August in the Lowton or Golborne area of Wigan to get in touch and help us with our investigation”.
