‘A glitter-covered camel-toed diva’ – Katie Hopkins on Mariah Carey’s NYE disaster

Despite a seemingly vicious comment on the pop-sensation’s NYE performance, Katie Hopkins has defended Mariah Carey after waves of criticism.

The outspoken media personality celebrated Mariah Carey’s unwavering courage to continue performing – even if that didn’t include singing.

In what appeared like a technical glitch – or rather epic malfunction, Mariah Carey cut her New Year’s Eve performance short. The singer, who notoriously celebrates her ‘diva’ label stormed off stage after, what appeared like, lip-synching, was exposed.

During the performances, technical faults lead to the failure of her pieces. According to reports, Mariah was only able to hear the chaos of Times Square and not her backing track.

Allegations arose after claims were made that the production “set her up to fail”.

Soon after the claims made light, Dick Clark Productions hit back. The production team stated that the allegation that they “would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd”.

Other sources claim the 46-year-old had enough time to rehearse, but chose not to. It is rumoured that the ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ singer used her body double for sound check.

Stella Bulochnikov, Carey’s manager, spoke out about accusations of lip-syncing, saying:

“It’s not lip-syncing. Lip-syncing is when people don’t sing at all. This is what people should understand. Every artist sings to a track, especially in circumstances like that when it’s really loud and impossible to have a great musical performance. You’re not singing at the Philharmonic.”

Carey responded to Twitter backlash by posting a GIF of herself and a caption that included the words: ‘S**t happens’.
