A Gorton man has been sentenced to two years in prison for the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl.
Mark Anthony Todd pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual assault by penetration and inciting a female aged 18 or under to engage in sexual activity at Manchester Crown Court on 8 April.
The incident occurred when, on 18 April 2015, two girls aged 14 and 15 visited a house in Newton Heath at which Mr Todd and the 14-year-old’s sister were present.
The girls were plied with drugs and alcohol and in the early hours of Sunday 19 April, the 15-year-old awoke to find Mr Todd in bed next to her. Todd then sexually assaulted the girl while the 14-year-old slept next to them.
Detective Constable Laura Hughes from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit said “Mark Todd preyed on this young girl whilst she slept and was brazen enough to commit this horrific act whilst another child was in the bed next to his victim.
“We are pleased to be able to say he has been sentenced for this sexual assault and is off the streets of Manchester.
“I would like to pay tribute to the 15-year-old girl and her friend for the bravery they have shown in coming forward to report this assault.
“I hope that this will send out a clear message that we will not tolerate offences of this nature and help and support will always be there for victims who want to come forward and tell us about anything they may have suffered.
“If there was one message we could give to victims of sexual offences it is to say please come forward, you will be believed and support is available. Please don’t suffer in silence.”
