Hate crime in Chorlton

A man remains in custody after a hate crime in Chorlton.

Shortly before 8.55pm on Wednesday 18 April 2018. Police were called to Claude Road in Chorlton to reports of an attempted robbery.

It was reported that during the attempted robbery, a 54-year-old woman had sustained serious leg injuries. Two men also received minor injuries.

Initial enquiries also revealed that two other women, aged 43 and 61, were racially assaulted. Approximately one hour earlier on Formby Avenue. They received minor injuries.

A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Davies said: “It is appalling that three women and two men were assaulted last night. While we have arrested a man, our investigation is in its early stages and enquiries are ongoing.

“I want to assure the community that we will not tolerate. Any kind of hate crime or violence on our streets and we are treating this as an isolated incident.
