Police are searching for a black cab driver following the rape of a teenage girl on New Years Eve. The 18-year-old girl got in to a cab and was raped whilst trying to get home after her New Years celebrations.
The female told police that she got in to the black cab in Stalybridge with the view of returning home, however the driver of the vehicle drove her to wasteland on Castle Street, near to the Texaco petrol station in Stalybridge, before raping her.
The perpetrator is described as a 5ft 8in tall Asian man of slim/medium build with short dark hair that is longer on top, and stubble. It is believed
that the individual is around 27 years old and that he was wearing jeans, he also spoke with an Asian accent. It is believed that the victim entered the vehicle between 4.30am and 6.30am on the 1st of January.
Detective Sergeant Zoe Stapleton from Greater Manchester Police’s Tameside Division has remarked “This is a despicable act which has left a young woman completely distraught. We are doing everything we can to find the person responsible but we need the public’s help”.
“We are currently checking CCTV in the area but we are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or have any information about the attacker to come forward”.
