Hip hop fans with tickets to this year’s Parklife festival could be in for a few surprises when Ice Cube takes the stage.
The 46-year-old West Coast rap pioneer’s (real name O’Shea Jackson) performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California on 16 April featured cameos from some of the genre’s most iconic artists.
After their story was made into one of 2015’s hottest cinema releases, two of Ice Cube’s former N.W.A bandmates – MC Ren and DJ Yella – joined him onstage for blistering performances of ‘Straight Outta Compton’ and the controversial ‘F*ck The Police’. Dr Dre was nowhere to be seen, however.
Later in the show, Ice Cube performed the track ‘Real People’ from his upcoming film ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ with rapper Common before welcoming his final guest, Snoop Dogg, who joined him in a rendition of ‘The Next Episode’ from Dre’s ‘2001’ album.
Parklife 2016 will take place over the weekend of 11 and 12 June at Heaton Park and joining Ice Cube on the bill will be the likes of Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, Pusha T and many more.
