Chuck Gallery will be celebrating International Women’s Day with a preview of portraits from a Manchester-based female artist.
Members of the community are invited to preview the work of Jessica Ilatoda Omitola in her first solo exhibition. Omitola’s ‘stunning’ portraits will be showcased.
There will be a chance to meet Jessica at the celebration. Visitors can also learn of her ‘incredible journey’ through an interview conducted by Angela Ankeli.
A poetry presentation will be delivered by the award-winning poet, Chanje Kunda. In 2015, Chanje won the BBC’s Verb New Voices Award.
Marking the life of Buchi Emecheta, there will be a reading from ‘In the Ditch’. The renowned Nigerian writer and activist died in January 2017. Her work epitomises ‘female independence’ and ‘the necessity to grow stronger in the face of any setback’.
The International Women’s Day celebration will take place on 4 March 2017. The exhibition will run until 2 April 2017.
