Irlam Festival 2017
This year’s 3-day Irlam Live festival hosted a medley of classical music sessions.
Whilst it fell on a weekend that was jam-packed with events across the city, the show proves to be true to its themes.
The first night – Friday 2 June – with The Wailers and Ben VP opened the festival fittingly to set the tone for the weekend. Completing the Friday Night line-up, was Irlam’s very own Jess Kemp with her band.
Supporting The Wailers was Ben Volpeliere-Pierrot from Curiosity Killed The Cat. He sang all the hits including ‘Down To Earth’, ‘Name And Number’, ‘Misfit’ ‘Ordinary Day’ and ‘Hang On In There Baby’.
On SoulFest Saturday, 3 June, the festival was headlined by the legendary Alexander O’Neal. SoulFest Saturday also had other playing including Dave Finnigan’s Commitments, Imagination ft Leee John and Odyssey.
Joining them on Saturday was K Klass, Twisted Soul, Amanda Heywood and a number of Guest DJ from Soul Boutique and Manchester Soul Festival. Local superstar Phil Becket hosted the day.
Finally, was Retro Sunday, headlined by Jason Donovan. The Australian was also joined by Toyah, Dodgy, Owen Paul and Docor and the Medican all playing live. There were special guest appearances from the New York Brass Band, Men In Coats, Keven Gurney’s Club Tropicana, plus the Fairy’s Silent Disco.
This year there was a second stage in the form of a Big Top. It kicked into action between the acts on the main stage.
