Legendary Manchester band The Smiths has sparked rumours of a reunion by officially joining Twitter.
A verified account under the handle @Smiths Official appeared on 5 April prompting great excitement amongst the band’s fan base.
The Smiths, fronted by singer Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr, recorded four albums together before their bitter split in 1987.
Their most famous album, ‘The Queen Is Dead’, recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and fans have remained hopeful of the iconic band one day getting back together.
However, the account’s only tweet so far would appear to pour cold water on the rumours.
It says: “Please note this account is purely to celebrate the history and the music of The Smiths”.
