Olympic champion Usain Bolt fought unusually hard for a victory in the 200m race at the New York Diamond League meeting. The question on people’s lips after the race was, ‘Is the Jamaican losing his turbo voltage’ that often sees him steam ahead of the pack?
Nine weeks away from the athletics World Championships in Beijing which are to be held from 22 to 30 August 2015, Bolt struggled to beat the 20 second mark in the race.
The 28-year-old, who set the current 200m world record of 19.19 seconds at the World Championships in Berlin in 2009, clocked 20.29, edging out 19-year old Zharnel Hughes of Anguilla.
Six-time Olympic gold medallist Bolt has still yet to break 20 seconds in the event this year.
Bolt knows full well that he has to continue building on his speed and untouchable power to be able to withstand the surging young competition that will be in Beijing this summer.
