Thousands of parents nationwide withheld their children from school as part of a ‘Kids’ Strike’ over Year 2 SATs on Tuesday 3 May.
The strike was organised through social media groups such as ‘Let Our Kids Be Kids’, which posted an open letter to Education Secretary Nicky Morgan on Facebook calling for an end to the tests.
While critical of the Department of Education, the group stated their support for teachers, saying: “We are NOT unhappy with them.
“We are unhappy with the people in government who tell your teachers what to do.
“Even though your teachers told them they thought the SAT tests were too tricky and confusing this year the people in government didn’t listen!”
Although many families took part in the strike to end the SATs, turnout appears to vary across the country as many children attended school despite the strike.
