Kobe Bryant: LA Lakers’ poetic departure

The great LA Lakers giant Kobe Bryant, is said to retire at the end of this year’s NBA season.

Ranking 3rd on the NBA’s all-time list and scoring over 32,000 points, Bryant is undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest basketball players ever and an asset to the LA Lakers.

The player announced his exit from basketball by scribing an earnest poem to the game itself, entitled Dear Basketball, remarking that:

“I’m ready to let you go.
I want you to know now
So we both can savour every moment we have left together…’

Bryant notes his injuries as a cause for his departure, having sustained several setbacks in recent seasons:

“But I can’t love you obsessively for much longer.
This season is all I have left to give.
My heart can take the pounding
My mind can handle the grind
But my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.”

This has hindered the player from preserving his best this year for the Lakers. Nonetheless he maintains that he will always have an appreciation for basketball, ending the poem with an affectionate farewell.

“Love you always, Kobe”.
