Lancashire batsman wins Asian Cricket Award

Professional cricketer Haseeb Hameed has been awarded for his performance in the sport, at this year’s Asian Cricket Awards.

The third annual awards took place last week at the Kia Oval in London. Haseeb was presented the award for ‘Young Player of the Year’.

Born in Bolton, Haseeb is a talented young cricketer who plays for Lancashire County Cricket Club and England youth teams.

Lancashire Cricket Club proudly tweeted following Haseeb’s achievement, saying, “Congratulations to @LancsCCC batsman @HaseebHameed97 on winning the Young Player of the Year at the @ACricketAwards last night!”

It’s been an exciting month for the 19-year-old, who has also been chosen to be part of the senior England Test Squad, for the upcoming tour in Bangladesh. After some incredible performances with Lancashire, the up-and-coming talent has not gone unnoticed.

After a fixture against Lancashire, Andrew Gale – captain of the Yorkshire squad – spoke fondly of Haseeb. “Hameed is one of the best young players I’ve seen in a long time. He’s an old-fashioned opening batter who occupies the crease and didn’t get out of his shell all day. He just played beautifully”.

Clearly this young cricketer is one to look out for in England’s sporting future.
