Emmerdales #SummerFate spectacular was just that last night- spectacular. The death toll climbed to three, one was expected and the other definitely was not.
Following the emotional death of Ruby on Wednesday, last night it was Val Pollard’s turn to go out in true Val style.
After spending the whole of the wedding trapped in the house of mirrors with sister Dianne arguing, the pair made it up just in time for Val to die a hero.
Unbeknownst to Dianne, Val made sure her sister was rescued first while she stayed and faced a hanging shard of glass mirror that eventually got the better of her.
Lighting up her last cigarette, she looked up at the broken mirror threatening to end her life and goaded,
“Come on then, do your worst. I’m not frightened of you. I’m H.I.Val. I’m Valerie Pollard of the Valerie Pollard Foundation.”
“I’m Val,” she added as the shard fell, instantly killing her.
Straight from Val’s final scene we were brought back to the feuding Barton brothers Ross and Pete who were fighting after Pete found out his new wife Debbie had been having an affair with his brother Ross.
The fight was well and truly over as we saw Pete bungle his brother’s lifeless body in to boot of his car and drive to the woods.
There was still a glimmer of hope and expectation that when Pete opened the boot again, Ross would jump out but alas the hottest of the Barton brothers has met his maker, much to the shock of the nation.
Pete threw his brother’s body in to a ditch, covered him with some leaves, vomited and then left.
Although it’s typical of Ross to do disappearing acts, meaning the residents of the village won’t think anything of Ross’s disappearance for a while, we can only assume that the writers of this episode left such an obvious trail of evidence of Pete’s crime throwing up and then being caught by Belle Dingle throwing his wedding clothes away) for added effect of future episodes surrounding the drama.
Tonight is the finale of what has been a shocking week in the Dales, where we will see Eric Pollard come home to the news that his beloved wife has died. Will there be any more deaths?
Although Pete and Debbie have gotten back together on the condition that they never talk about their wedding day again, we all know that won’t happen.
