Presented by Moss Side’s Denise Southworth, the MOBO Show is Legacy Radio’s new show.
Airing on Tuesdays from 10am and 1pm, the new instalment adds to the list of shows that ‘encourage a more cohesive community’ at the station.
With a broadcasting experience and history of over ten years, Legacy 90.1FM broadcasts to the diverse audience across Manchester. It also to transmits its shows to the entire world through its website and the TuneIn app on mobile devices.
“Initially I wasn’t sure what type of show to do, there are some brilliant shows here and I didn’t feel any need to duplicate or compete with them”, Southworth told TNT. “I was looking for something a bit different”.
She admits that Legacy leans heavily towards Caribbean rather than African culture. “Being a proud daughter of Africa, I felt I should even things up a bit, she said. “So my show will feature a fair bit of music and news from that continent”.
The Moss Side born and raised radio presenter intends to play music that is “very rarely heard on any station. How often do you hear Billie Holliday, Big Mama Thornton, Miles Davis, Bessie Smith, John Lee Hooker or Mahalia Jackson?” she quipped. Her show will showcase all those artists and more.
“There will also be a Community News slot, regular interviews with both local celebs and regular everyday people”, Southworth confirmed. Additionally, “a fun quiz called The Million Pound Challenge” will feature on the morning to lunchtime segment.
“I want the show to not only introduce the listeners to different genres of music but to entertain, amuse and uplift them too”, she concluded.
