The Klondyke Club will play host on the 12 June to Taste Africa, the launch of Levenshulme’s third Food and Drink Festival. Two weeks of celebrating African culture through music and food is set to ensue.
Amongst those headlining are nine-piece Zimbabwean band Zee Guveya and the Heritage Survival, Sierra Leonean singer-songwriter Sam Maitland aka PapaSam Alafia and African dancefloor tunes from DJ Mayeva.
Favourite on the UK festival circuit, Zee Gueva and the Heritage Survival have made a name for themselves showcasing their Chimurenga and Sungura dance rhythms. PapaSam Alafia, based in Longsight Manchester, tours the globe with his band Alafia exhibiting their Afro-fusion style.
Each artist is represented by Lingua Franca World Music Agency, set in Levenshulme, which specializes uniquely in performers from across different cultures. Levenshulme itself is fast becoming Manchester’s place to be for anything musical or cultural.
Alongside the fusion of musical vibrancy, Taste Africa will be catered by cable-TV chef Sam Maitland, who will prepare a buffet of delectable gourmet African cuisine.
An evening for the whole family, Taste Africa offers both a celebration of African culture and a perfect introduction to the music and gastronomy
