Inspirational wresting trio make mum proud
A mother of three from Manchester is hoping her children’s successes in wrestling will inspire others to get involved in sport.
Fiona Everett-Jones, from the Whalley Range and Moss Side area, is bursting with pride for her three children and their achievements.
She believes her children, aged between 4 and 9, will be an inspiration to other children.
Although only young, Fiona’s two sons and one daughter have already made impressive strides in the world of wrestling.
Her two sons, Taylor, 9, and Marshall, 8, have been doing freestyle wrestling for two years and have both competed in many competitions.
Both competed in the Welsh Open Wrestling Competition earlier this year, clinching gold and bronze medals respectively.
Over the weekend of 13-14 May, Marshall became the English Champion at 32kg in freestyle wrestling, among the ages of 8-11.
Fiona’s daughter, Bailey, is just 4 years old but, according to her mother, is a “strong little lady when up against the boys at practice”.
Having been wrestling for a month now, she is eager to follow in the footsteps of her big brothers.
On 29 April, all three kids competed in an interclub competition with ASW Huddersfield at the Y Club in Castlefield.
Amazingly, all three wrestled their way to medals – taking home an impressive two silvers and a gold between them.
Mum Fiona is understandably proud of her children, who she hopes will be an inspiration to others.
She said: “This will hopefully inspire children back into sports and give a positive view of children from ethnic backgrounds.
“Not all kids hang out on the streets kicking a football against a wall.
“Mine are out doing sport practically every night.
“I’d love for more children in the community to get down there as well”.
The strong trio also added more medals to their collection on Saturday 6 May – bringing home one each from the Derbyshire Open.
