Romelu Lukaku has called on Manchester United fans to stop singing a racist chant about him.
The controversial song, which makes reference to the striker’s penis, has been widely condemned.
Kick It Out, the football equality and inclusion organisation, contacted Manchester United about the chant. Which they deem ’offensive and discriminatory’.
‘Racist stereotypes are never acceptable in football or wider society. Irrespective of any intention to show support for a player’, a spokesperson for the organisation said.
In a tweet on Manchester United’s official Twitter profile, Lukaku was quoted asking fans to ‘move on’ from the song.
Manchester United fans have quickly warmed to Lukaku whose brilliant start follows his £75million switch from Everton.
The Belgian striker has scored seven goals in as many appearances for the club so far this season.
