Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has become the latest to accuse Harvey Weinstein of a series of incidents of sexual harassment. Lupita’s claims come amidst a growing list of women coming forward to talk about being assaulted by the film mogul.
In her account, she describes her feelings of guilt for not speaking out sooner, and vowed that the culture of silence must end.
34-year-old Lupita wrote in agonising detail about her encounters with the shamed Hollywood producer. The encounters began when she met him at an industry event in Berlin as a young actress. They ended when she stated that she did not want to work with him, in 2014.
“He was one of the first people I met in the industry, and he told me, ‘This is the way it is.’ And wherever I looked, everyone seemed to be bracing themselves and dealing with him, unchallenged,” she wrote.
He invited her to his home in Connecticut for a film screening.
At his home, after the screening had begun, and with his young children in the room, he said he wanted to show her something. He took her up to his bedroom and said he wanted to give her a massage.
Lupita felt unsafe and panicked, and when he wanted to remove his trousers, she refused and left.
Weinstein has denied the claims. He is set to extend his treatment at a sex rehabilitation clinic for another month.
‘At least he didn’t discriminate’
Meanwhile, P Diddy’s ‘baby mama’ Kim Porter has shocked the entertainment world after hearing about Lupita’s claim. She said, “at least he (Weinstein) didn’t discriminate”. Porter was seemingly grateful that Weinstein included black women amongst his victims.
“How can you look for diversity in abuse? That is sick, twisted and damn pathetic. Shame on you, Kim Porter”, Rashida Jennings tweeted.
