Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o is one of the new faces of Calvin Klein.
On 16 July, Calvin Klein announced its first fragrance to come out since Raf Simons joined as chief creative officer in 2016. And for the new scent Calvin Klein Women, two Hollywood starlets were chosen to be faces for the brand: Lupita Nyong’o and Saoirse Ronan.
The campaign features minimalist portraits of the award-winning actresses split-screened next to women who have inspired them. Both actresses chose women of strength, integrity, and passion. Nyong’o selected Eartha Kitt and Katharine Hepburn. Ronan picked Sissy Spacek and Nina Simone.
“With this fragrance, we wanted to put the concept of plurality centre stage. The campaign is an exploration of femininity – a group of women bonded by a common thread; the desire to have the power to create their own identity, and to support and lead the way for those that come after them.” said Raf Simons in a press release.
“CALVIN KLEIN WOMEN is inspired by the transmission of strength and inspiration from one woman to the next; by plurality combined with individuality; freedom of expression; and the notion that the collective is as vital as the individual.”
The actresses will also be featured in the CALVIN KLEIN WOMEN television campaign, directed by Anne Collier in New York City, which will debut worldwide later this summer.
Nyong’o is of course no stranger to the beauty industry. The Oscar-winning Kenyan beauty has been the face of Lančome since 2014. However, this is Ronan’s first major beauty campaign.
