Man arrested following fire at Salford church

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has arrested a man following a fire at a church in Salford.

At 11.20pm on 12 February 2017 police were called to a fire in Salford. The fire had broken out at the Church of Ascension on Broughton Lane, Lower Broughton.

An investigation was launched and officers are treating the incident as arson.

A 22-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of arson. He has been released on bail until 30 March 2017.

GMP’s Detective Sergeant Karl Dalton said that officers have made “significant progress”.

Following an appeal for information, GMP thanks members of the public for their help and support.

GMP is still investigating the fire and is continuing to appeal for information. It is “vital” that those with information contact police.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a group of youths on bikes near to church.
