Manchester City have entered into a regional partnership with SoccerWorld, with the aim of providing young footballers across China with better access to state-of-the-art facilities and training programmes.
The new partnership, which will see SoccerWorld become the club’s official recreational partner in the north west region, was launched at a signing ceremony at the City Football Academy. SoccerWorld chief executive Changen Fan and chairman Tao Guan attended the ceremony and the pair also received a tour of the training ground.
Vincent Kompany, Willy Caballero and Richard Wright made an appearance at the ceremony as the trio welcomed SoccerWorld into the Manchester City family, by presenting them with a signed home shirt.
Manchester City coaches will visit China twice a year to supplement SoccerWorld coaches with a one-week intensive training programme, designed to enable them to enhance the opportunities for young footballers. The coaches who complete the course will receive an official club certificate in recognition of their achievements.
Meanwhile, SoccerWorld will select the best players within their programme before sending them to the City Football Academy, where they will work with Manchester City coaches and sports scientists. Whilst in Manchester, the selected players will also compete in a tournament against Manchester-based youth players, be taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Etihad Stadium and watch the first team train.
Manchester City said the partnership builds on the club’s exciting plans in China, following the announcement that China Media Capital-led consortium has paid £265m for a 13% stake in parent company City Football Group.
