Man dies after collision in Cheetham Hill

An elderly man has died falling a collision in Cheetham Hill.

Police were called to Cheetham Hill Road shortly before 2pm on Tuesday 21 February 2017. A collision occurred involving a blue DAF lorry and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian man, who was in his 70’s, was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

Road closures were put in place on Cheetham Hill Road, Greenhill Street and Heywood Street but have since been lifted.

A man has been arrested on suspicion on causing death by careless driving and remains in custody for questioning.

Paul Hailwood, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic set of circumstances that has led to the death of an elderly man.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We have one man in custody but our investigation continues. I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything to come forward.

“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision to please contact us”.
